Cold Winters Day?

With winter slowly coming it's time to think about how you are going to spend those winter nights. No doubt mine will be at home doing school work, or in the case of Tuesdays and Wednesdays, in class. Now as a full blooded Canadian, who has lived in the moist city of St. John's I know a thing or two about getting rid of the winter chills you get when your boots begin to leak ice water onto your feet.

1. Exchange you wet socks, for warm dry wool socks.
2. Cozy up in a nice afghan.
3. Convince someone to cuddle you.
4. Pop on your favorite show or movie and forget about your cold feet.
5. Wrap your hands around a warm mug of tea, coffee, hot cocoa, or for a change hot apple cider

However, you need mulling spice, which is hard to find pre-made, So I bring you this!

  • 14 double-layer cheesecloth 5-inch squares
  • 14 (10-inch) lengths of white string
  • 3 ounces whole cinnamon sticks
  • 6 whole nutmegs (1 ounce)
  • 1/3 cup chopped dried orange peel
  • 1/3 cup chopped dried lemon peel
  • 1/4 cup allspice berries
  • 1/4 cup whole cloves
  • 2 Tablespoons finely chopped, crystallized ginger
1. Crush up the Cinna stick and nutmeg (just a bit)
2. Place in a bowl and stir in orange peel, lemon peels, all spice, cloves, and ginger
3.Place about 2 tablespoons of the spice mixture in the center of each cheesecloth square. Tie securely with the string. (makes 14 bags, and each bag does 1 can [one liter, 8 cups, 1/2 gallon])

Enjoy!
PS. drinks for one or 2? I just bottle and refrigerate and reheat in microwave or on the stove top as desired!
